ABOUT
Mission
Harris House is a charitable, not for profit organization and United Way agency whose primary purpose is to help alcoholic and chemically dependent persons achieve sobriety and become responsible, healthy and productive individuals. Implicit in our mission is giving people the opportunity to experience the miracle of their own recovery, regardless of race, creed or economic status.
History
Harris House began in 1960 when a St. Louis couple, Dallas and Illene Mosely, provided care for alcoholics in their home during early recovery. Initially on MacPherson Street in the Central West End, Harris House moved to its current South Broadway location in 1981, after a fire destroyed its original building. The facilities now include a new state-of-the-art residential treatment center and multiple transitional housing facilities that allow Harris House to provide treatment centered around the motto of Recovery with Responsibility.Over the years, Harris House has expanded from offering food, shelter, and support to also providing professional, comprehensive services that extend from intensive inpatient treatment to long-term transitional housing. Harris House offers recovering individuals much-needed structure with the core value of responsibility.
